Had dinner there tonight 9/4/14. Inauthentic, expensive Italian. Spent $150.00/two with ok bottle of wine, one appetizer(poorly fried calamari with bland red dipping sauce). Entree was well cooked pan seared grouper with horrible, gummy risotto. Second entree was a specialty-squid with squid ink pasta a la Sicily. I've spent much time in Sicily and all of Italy and this sweet and bland dish does not exist in the entire country and shouldn't exist anywhere. I sent it back in exchange for spaghetti con aglio, olio and peporoncino. Usually simple is best and even here they over cooked the pasta. Nice waiter named Phil and Josh the chef came over to explain that their food sells. How sad!

Absolutely fantastic food, my favorite so far while visiting Palm Coast! I ordered the Lobster stuffed Ravioli with shrimp and this delicious sauce. We had ordered an appetizer which was similar to a mozzarella ball fried with a tasty tomato paste. Lastly for dessert we had the warm brownie explosion! If you enjoy chocolate I highly recommend it it was chocolate gelato with chocolate chips on top of a warm gooey brownie drizzled in chocolate sauce. Of course their customer service was wonderful to make things even better! 5/5 easily!

The food was great but the service was excellent. The staff are very knowledgeable about the wine list and can recommend the best one for your meal or to your personal preference. My wife had just poured a glass of wine from a bottle we purchased and chipped her glass, they brought her a new empty glass and then brought her a full glass on the house. Exceptional service that was above and beyond the norm.

La Piazza Cafe had a wide variety of tasty Italian dishes. It was hard to decide what I wanted! The overall atmosphere was fun but at the same time semi- formal. I ordered the Alla Vodka pasta with chicken and it was very good! However, the penne noodles were not as soft as I'd like them and the pasta to chicken ratio lacked enough chicken.. But the overall European style outdoor cafe atmosphere and quality of food made a trip and meal worthwhile. The price range for many of the pasta's are from $12-$16 and contain both quality and quantity for the price.

I've been here 3 times so far and have been please with the service and quality of the food. I live close by so it's nice to be able get good authentic Italian close by. I will be back for sure.

Food is good, however, 1 star taken off because the waitress had an attitude. We were there for a presentation and they brought out water without ice, & when someone requested steak sauce, she said that they don't have it. Oh, and she ignored my request for some bread even though I asked twice. (They forgot to bring it out!) I've eaten here twice (once for breakfast and another time for a private dinner in the back room) and the food is good but to be 5 stars you need to have great service and your customers need to feel comfortable.

We just had one of the best meals of our vacation in St. Augustine, FL. It was late, almost 9:30 pm, and most restaurants were closing, however, we decided to try La Piazza Cafe in Palm Coast's European Village. We had heard about it earlier from someone we met on the beach, and I'm so glad we decided to check it out! The food, ambience (very cool light up menus that made them very easy to read) and terrific staff were all top notch. We were very fortunate to have a great waiter named Beau, who knew all the specials by heart and described them in a way that made them all sound delicious. We ended up ordering one of the specials, some type of ziti-like combo with meatballs, sausage, and chicken that was superb! We also ordered the shrimp Alfredo that was equally delicious. La Piazza Cafe has very large portions at a reasonable price. Mouth watering bread and oil balsamic dip along with salads were a perfect start. The food is well seasoned and well presented. We finished off this amazing meal by ordering 3 different desserts as they all looked amazing, and they tasted just as good as they looked! We had creme brûlée , which Beau did a very good job at blow torching to a perfect golden crunch, along with cannolis, and a to-die-for tiramisu mouse parfait with chocolate covered lady fingers! If you are looking for a great Italian restaurant that is unique and not a cookie-cutter franchise, La Piazza Cafe is the perfect choice! Great food, great staff, plus the ambience of the European Village adds to this special dining experience at a reasonable price!

La Piazza stands out for excellent food, wines and service. It is the second favorite restaurant for us and our neighbors. No, it is not inexpensive and no, it isn't the spot to take children as the menu and clientele are more sedately upscale. Wonderful food!!!

This was our third trip in a couple years here, and we remembered quickly why we never return. The service is terrible. The food is ok but not worth the hassle and every time we came they tried to overcharge us. This time to the tune of a full extra bottle of wine! No apology was given for the error, just a crummy explanation and then an extra billing for another glass of wine we did not order either. Honestly no one goes out to be treated like a jerk by a crummy waiter. Skip it

My wife and I just had a wonderful New Years Eve dinner at La Piazza. They had a special menu for the evening. Their food never disappoints. I had the cold antipasto and my wife had the hot, both were fabulous. I had the Frutti Di Mare and my wife had the Surf and Turf. Both entrees were cooked perfectly and tasted great. Our waiter Phil recommended an excellent bottle of wine. We will be back for dinner very soon.

  • And That IS The Truth ..

A quick preface to my review: I've seen that the owner of La Piazza replies to many of the reviews posted and for that I commend you sir. To see an engaged owner is both rare and refreshing. You understand the importance of online reviews! I pride myself on giving honest reviews, yes I'm often strict in my reviews and very detailed. Please don't take this review for anything more than honest and constructive feedback of my first experience at your restaurant. Now for the review: We've often walked past La Piazza and have admired it's classy appearance. The initial "curb appeal" is quite nice and much nicer than any of the other restaurants within the area! When we came for an early dinner the other evening, one immediate thing was off putting... my wife and I approached the host's stand, were greeted, given a quick look over and offered outside seating without being given the option of inside. Lucky for them we preferred outside. Let me share the details... This was early evening on a weeknight. I was dressed VERY casual, it's summer in Florida so nothing inappropriate, not a bathing suit, but certainly not dressy at all. The host looked us over, and offered outside seating... "Outside work for you?" he asked. I find that off putting, I get it, I'm not dressy, but the correct approach would have been... "would you prefer inside or outside?" I don't like to be marginalized. My clothes were clean, just very casual. Let me add that I'm not some punk kid, my wife and I are professionals and likely in the top 1% income bracket for the town. Back to my review... we were seated outside. Our server approached us, once again got a "look over". I wanted to ask if there was something growing out of my head, or if I had a third eye? Anyhow, she presented the specials. We ordered two main dishes, which come with a choice of House Salad, Cesar Salad, or Soup, she mentioned that the soup has an up charge. We also ordered an appetizer. The Food: Calamari - Very good, lightly fried in obviously clean oil (didn't have that greasy, oily taste). Very pleasant and great quality. The warm sauce was delish. Lobster Ravioli with Shrimp and Scallops - Just okay really, it was, well... lobster ravioli, the lobster filing was pasty no chunks of lobster. The sauce, too sweet (for us). The pasta felt a bit under cooked. My immediate feedback is, just too expensive for what it is. $30 The Spaghetti and Meatballs - Again, okay, not the best I've had, not the worst either. I don't really know what else to write about it other than it was fine. Would I order it again, maybe? Patio Atmosphere: Very nice, probably the nicest outdoor restaurant patio in town. When we got our bill, we saw that there was an up-charge for the Cesar salads $3.00 each. The server never mentioned that to us (she told us the soup was an up-charge). No biggie, the salad was actually very good! Not your typical Cesar. The dressing was very flavorful and seasoned very well. So this review is hard for me. The food overall deserves a 3.5 - 4 rating, the Atmosphere a 5 for sure, but the service... well, the fact that while sitting there we felt uncomfortable, (made to feel uncomfortable by the host and then the server)... that's something I can't overlook. I can appreciate that La Piazza is trying to be more than just a neighborhood joint, they are trying to be more upscale. I get that. But you can't, especially in a small town where the median family income is in the ball park of 25K treat paying customers like that. Especially when your average menu item is $22. For this reason I have to give you guys a 3 star rating. Please work with your team on service, that was sorely lacking in our experience. This is not NY, it's not Chicago, LA or Miami. Being pretentious will not win you business.

A real gem in more ways than one! The food, service and ambience is first class. Having dinner outside you could easily believe you are in Italy. The menu is varied and the nightly specials are impressive. We had dinner here before going to the Flagler auditorium and our waiter Matt made sure we were not late without being hurried. The owner greeted us when we arrived and checked on us during the meal. Don't miss this gem if you are in the area....you won't be disappointed!

Our family recently celebrated my father in law 80th birthday at La Piazza and we all had a blast . The new Banquet Room is gorgeous, the food is amazing as always, the staff was very attentive to our every need; which made our evening perfect and the tiramisu cake was out of this world. I am looking forward to celebrating many other occasions at La Piazza; a truly exceptional experience. Thank you Larry, Diana and Larry Jr.!

My wife and I get there on Sunday at 7:45 on Sunday when their website states they are open until 9:00. We were told they started to tare the kitchen down a half hour ago. Really? On Mother's Day?

If you are looking for the perfect meal and the perfect evening you have found the right place. A true gem hidden in the European Village. From the time you are welcomed by name into the restaurant and seated at a quiet table with white table linen you are made to feel special. The menu lights up (it really does light up) with so many fabulous choices you just can't decide which to have. Everything looks fantastic and you want to try everything. Our waiter Bryan who we had read reviews online about did not disappoint. He was knowledgeable and very helpful. The food was served with class and style and was the best my wife and I have had in a very long time. Everything was cooked to perfection. The serving sizes of the main course was more than sufficient even though the mushroom appetizer seemed a little skimpy but they were the best my wife had ever had since they were stuffed with filet and cheese with special wine sauce. The cheesecake was a perfect ending to a great meal. Service was impeccable.i should add that we had a bottle of wine which was excellent and priced reasonably. The next time we travel from Gainesville to Palm Coast we will be stopping for another great meal. I wish I could give this restaurant a 6 star rating. You will not be disappointed.

Everyone has been saying how good the food is, and everything I've had so far has been tasty. I consider waiting 45 minutes for a salad ludicrous. And as far as how good the food is I wouldn't know. After I've been here an hour and a half I had to ask a waiter who wasn't ours, because he disappeared after 15 minutes, to tell us after being here for this long they've starte cooking the food five minutes ago. If all the tables served after me were still waiting a wait for good food is worth it. Everyone, large and small parties, have been served before us. I don't know what the deal is with their kitchen staff, but perhaps organization is something they should be looking into. I will gladly never come back with nothing missed. Also the ambiance is garbage and the servers shouldn't be force to wear fedoras. That is cruel.

I took my 30 year old nephew ( from New York ) to dinner here tonight, expecting to really delight him, and was really very disappointed. I have dined here several times (I live in Palm Coast) and to be honest, vacillated between loving it or just"ok", but my son and daughter-in-law dined there recently, and told me it was very good, so I thought I would give it another try. I ordered the pork chop (special) and my nephew ordered the chicken Parmesan. His was OK, nothing special-- mine was really terrible. The meat was tough and the sauce it was smothered in was salty and not at all to my liking. I ate the vegetables and most of the sweet potatoes, which were very tasty, but the meat was extremely disappointing. To make matters worse, the price ($30.00) was not in keeping with a pork chop. The salad was just mixed greens, very unimaginative, I chose an upgrade to onion soup ( an additional $5.99) added to the $30.00 base price. But I chose to take it home rather than spoil my appetite for the (hopeful, but unrealized) delicious main course. I told them at the end that I was not happy with the meal ( as I left about 80%) and chose not to take it home. They questioned me quite q bit. Told me they're the best in Palm Coast, took nothing off the bill, but gave me a $25.00 gift certificate. The bill came to $82.32 without the tip. To be exact, we had one coke, one water, calamari ( which were excellent), chicken Parmesan, and the pork chop. Price point to quality just doesn't make it for me.

It's been a little while since I've been to La Piazza, but they're very good. A traditional Italian meal, served in a beautiful restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, attentive staff, and a wonderful dessert menu. I don't have a bad thing to say about this place. Well, yes I do. It's in European Village, so it can be a little loud.

This place is great. We had dinner here while staying in the area. We sat outside which was really nice. I highly recommend the calamari as an appetizer. It was the most tender I have ever had. We all enjoyed our dinners - chicken parm, eggplant parm, spag and meatballs, and zuppa di pesce. The sauce here is really tasty. Can't wait to return!

This place was definitely "meh" for me. Not bad, but just so-so. I feel like a few adjustments to the menu would have made it a lot more delicious. There was a bit of a flatness to the flavors in our entrees -- they lacked that extra somethin'-somethin' that would have made them really shine.

Amazing brunch. Especially the Eggs Benedict! (P.S. Canadian bacon =/= ham, but whatever.) Lunch salads are wicked satisfying and filling. Dinner is FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!! Not too expensive. Always tasty. Not diet food.

With nowhere to eat during the lacrosse tournament we found this on yelp. It was the best find ever-you won't see this from the road it's located inside a courtyard, very charming setting. The food and service were impeccable. Perfection on the palm coast!

I honestly can't think of a single thing I would change about Piazza Cafe. From the service, to the atmosphere, to the food--it does everything right. They were even open on Christmas Eve, when a lot of other places in the area showed no signs of life, and the staff was cheerfully setting up for their Christmas dinner, one of their busiest nights of the year. Our lunch hit the spot: a filling and flavorful Greek salad (with grape leaves!) and a neatly pressed panini with fresh-cut fries. A little bowl of water for our dog, and we were a happy family. I would definitely come here again when I am in the area.

I can't say enough great about La Piazza. Every meal I have had here has been excellent. The wine selection and prices are wonderful. Service is outstanding and the ambience is so great you don't want to leave! The daily seafood specials are outstanding with very fresh offerings. Bit my favorites are the pasta dishes with the Bolognese roping the list!

I put a lot of thought and debate into this review. Why I couldn't give a 4 star review was the cost to quality factor. Don't get me wrong the food was delicious, but was overpriced, kids meals were waaay overpriced compared to many other restaurants. Scallops were cooked perfectly, lobster ravioli was good, but I don't think it was freshly made pasta. For the price they should make it onsite. If I'm wrong about the pasta someone correct me. Calamari was nice, not a chewy piece to be found, but my kids thought it was average. The staff were very friendly. The only food complaint was the apple pie, it sucked, boring and tasteless. I've been to a lot of restaurants, so my review is comparing this to other higher end restaurants that have as good if not better food for similar prices. One last addition, please stop using the cheezy backlit menus, they are just tacky not to mention mine was only 1/2 lit.

Hard to understand how a restaurant that has so much going for it, offers a salad with an entree and serves a bowl with a handful of spring mix. Very disappointing when an entree is $30. My food arrived cold. On a positive note the eggplant was excellent as well as the lobster ravioli with shrimp and scallop. Service was excellent but the price point did not meet the expectation of a restaurant charging those prices.

I had a strange experience here. I went there for lunch and ordered a salad and asked for the fried calamari to be grilled instead of fried. The salad came out with a bunch of withered and black leaves in it so I sent it back and they brought me another one. Then the column came out and it wasn't nicely cut so even though I felt badly, I asked to change my order and ordered a pasta dish instead. When I sent the dish back in, I noticed the owner (I think it was the owner) come outside and stand in a spot where he could watch me. I guess he was wondering who is this girl who keeps sending things back. After a while of him standing there watching me eat, he came over and asked me why I had sent back the calamari. There was something about his tone that irritated me, it was almost accusatory, as though I was giving them a headache. The pasta dish was OK, but nothing super special. They also don't make their own pasta which for the pricing they ask, the pasta should be homemade. Overpriced. I ended up spending $40 on lunch when all i had was a side salad and bruschetta and a pasta/eggplant dish. I also feel bad for the staff who have to wear all black long sleeve tops and pants with a fedora hat, even though it was like 90° outside. However this review is three stars because the staff were super nice.

Our meals were just wow from start to finish! To start the house salad had a nice dressing and the bread was great too! The Pasta Alfredo was the best I have ever had!! They had a flounder special that was great! The couple with us had Grigliatta Misto & Pesce del Giorno which they was was amazing! Then to top it off the cheese cake, brownie & ice cream & tiramisu...all were great! Our wait staff was wonderful throughout the whole meal! As we were leaving out, I am going to guess the owner, got up from his table and held the door open for us as we talked to him about our wonderful meal! We will defiantly be back the next time in the area!!! (Tip: I'd make a reservation)

I was not expecting this restaurant to be as good as it is! First, I am of Italian heritage and am very weary of eating Italian food out, especially if it is not in New York or New Jersey. Secondly, it was Easter Sunday which means too many people and inferior food. I was proven extremely wrong! Everything was perfect, from the wait staff to, most importantly, the food. The flavors were exceptional, the dishes came out steaming, and we were not rushed at all. Needless to say we will be eating at LaPiazza while visiting Palm Coast in the future.

My second time eating here and it was delicious! I had the pasta bolognese. It was so well seasoned and flavorful. My sister got the pasta genovese, the pesto sauce with tortellini was really a great combo. Larry the owner is so nice and came by the table to make sure everything was going well. Would definitely come here again and would recommend this to anyone in the area.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. I recently ate here with my family (8 women) for girls weekend. After having a bad experience at a place the night before we were told to check out La Piazza. The Service was in my top 5 dining experiences ever. The food was amazing. I was able to taste several entrees and they were all delicious. My favorite being a tie between the chicken carbonara and the lasagna.

Great find! I was in Palm Coast for a weekend getaway with my family. We were staying at Hammock Beach and came across an ad for the restaurant in one of the magazines in the room. We decided to give it a try. We are from Miami -- we were not expecting to find many places better than what we can find at home. But we did!! We all love this restaurant! Authentic italian food. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

Just as I was beginning to feel that Palm Coast had absolutely 'no heart' no real love or reason to live...I walked along the ICW...transforming...then we stumbled into this Euoropean Village Arena concept thing..listen..I was drawn by the music of Tony Bennett, that is the second thing I noticed, the first was the aroma in the parking lot.. I knew I was in for something good ..and the nose KNOWS.. I had a scrumptuous chicken piccatta, preceeded by a good house salad simply dressed in white balsamic dressing,a fabulous bottle of very affordable Pinot Gris, dinner mate had a sesame seared tuna and a glass of pinot noir that was exclaimed to be 'thee best ever' ..so, I no longer want to buy a house here..but I certainly would still eat here....and guys...you don't have to wear those those little gangster fedoras..you have me hooked with great waiting skills ..my hat is off to you !!Best of luck!

My wife and I get there on Sunday at 7:45 on Sunday when their website states they are open until 9:00. We were told they started to tare the kitchen down a half hour ago. Really? On Mother's Day?

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
